Living in Kathmandu doesn’t necessarily mean that you get to experience the mighty Himalayas. Most of the time, haze from pollution and dust obscures the view – a view that’s mostly hidden by the surrounding hills anyway. Sometimes, we forget what we have just around the corner – the biggest mountains in the world.
You only have to travel an hour away from central Kathmandu to see them though. We just spent New Year’s Eve in Nagarkot: a small village at the rim of the Kathmandu Valley. The term ‘village’ may be a bit misleading. It is a bunch of resorts coupled with a village and a few small businesses. People come here for one reason: the View. And what a View.
Alright view + inevitable clothes line
If you ask me what I think, I’d say that Nagarkot is a pleasant place to spend a day and a night. Do you have one extra day in Kathmandu? Go to Nagarkot and inhale some fresh air, sleep in a nice hotel and take in the spectacular view. The Official Seatofourpants Nepal Tourism Board recommends it.
