My good friend Julie sent me an email 6 months ago about the Tiger Temple in Thailand, refering to it as Radicool (that’s right – Rad and Cool, combined – she’s awesome). We found ourselves with an extra day to kill before heading to the southern islands, so we decided to check out this Radicool place.
Three hours east by bus landed us in Kanchanaburi, a town famous for two things – the Bridge over the River Kwai and the Tiger Temple.
We opted for the Temple – imagine a zoo (or wild animal park for you San Diegans) without cages. That pretty much sums up our experience at the “temple” (which was not really a temple at all, but a large fenced in area where all species of animal roam free).
The tigers themselves are the main attraction. We were informed before entering the tiger area that no sunglasses, hats, bright colors or bags were allowed in with the tigers. Fine. No need to get these guys into an accidental game of chase the dangling pant string.
Pictures were taken. We pet gigantic cats. We were pumped. Though I must say that a certain someone was too afraid to get anywhere near them.
