It’s Time to Swallow the ol’ Pride

I’ve played chess exactly twice in my life. Both ended in an angry display of throwing pieces at my opponent. I’ve since avoided the game, for obvious reasons.

Truth be told, I’ve watched people playing the game and, well, it makes me jealous. It might be just me, but people that play chess look smart. They may not be smart, they but they look it. And if I were being honest, which apparently is the case, I’d admit that I like to look smart, too.

Embarrassing admissions aside, this is why we picked up a little traveler’s chess set yesterday. Martin has agreed to teach me the game, as long as I keep my pieces from flying through the air. With any luck, I’ll be looking smart in a few months.

You know a quick fix to looking smart that won’t leave smartino bruised and bleeding…wear glasses and carry around a book at all times. Oh ya, and speak with an english accent. I once watched a commercial that had an English clown being silly for some kids. I immediately thought, ‘wow, that clown is very intelligent.”
