• Lady’s Slipper Orchid

Sweden’s largest orchid is currently in bloom. We hopped into the car yesterday to check it out. En route we drove up an embankment, charmingly named Nightmare Hill (named so because, for no apparent reason, it spooked every horse that passed it), continued through a heavily forested area to reach our destination: a perfectly hidden nature reserve.

We were happily greeted by a billion mosquitoes on our jaunt into the reserve. They’re relentless this time of year!

Martin’s mom found the elusive flowers amongst the onslaught; I took a photo and ran to the car – so much for a chill family outing. They were truly beautiful flowers, though. Check out more about them here.

I hate mosquitoes! For some reason they only bite my face. If they were smart at all they would go for the juicier part of my body. i.e. the back of my arms, the sides of my belly, or my ever increasing bum. Stupid mosquitoes.
